The staff and program of A Home Away are second to none. We understand addiction recovery and know how to help you with yours. And we are passionate about what we do, and will go to any length to help you or your loved one. This means you will receive the best possible program to experience living a full, healthy life, remaining clean and sober, free from addiction.
The AHA retreat process of recovery is unique: The Derry Dynamic Life Model®, a comprehensive, healthy interpersonal dynamic built upon trust, respect and dignity, in a compassionate, intimate home setting. This revolutionary approach is proven to deliver results. We are not like treatment centers or other healthcare institutions that rely upon the traditional medical model, providing care and administering medications. You will experience a personal journey of insight and self discovery that yields the changes you are looking for in your life. The Derry Dynamic Life Model® is the result of years of study and professional experience, comprehensive, holistic, and, most importantly, highly effective. By the completion of your program, we guarantee that you will continue to be free of addiction, clean and sober, and have a never-before optimism and excitement about your new, dynamic life, career, and family.
You will not "fall through the cracks" here! You will enjoy an intimate resort setting: a maximum of 8 guests at a time. You will not be lost in the 'back row' here! This means we will get to know you as an individual, intimately, and will work hard, and dig deep, to get at the root of your concerns. We will stay with you and embrace you with compassion. Primary Addiction Recovery Retreat
The primary addiction recovery retreat is 42 days. Longer retreats in weekly increments are available; the optimal duration is 91 days. You will also receive a one week complimentary refresher program (see below*). This is in support of our dedication to providing the best possible program to give you the best chance of sustained recovery from the effects of alcoholism or other addiction.

For those who have previously completed the core program, maintained sobriety, and wish to renew, refresh and energize. This is your opportunity for renewal, reflection and deeper healing. You are welcomed back to A Home Away to further solidify and refresh your sobriety with a 7-day program stay, free of charge. After the honeymoon phase of excitement about your new life of recovery passes, many find that life presents new challenges, particularly in years 2 to 5. We invite you to return for a refresher during that time, as our guest, as one of many expressions of us letting you know that we are here for you and stand behind you. |

Breathing Easy
Given the prevalence of tobacco use in our society, everyone has been impacted by nicotine addiction in some way. Perhaps you never used directly, but have been subjected to second hand smoke. Others have used and stopped, and may be at risk of restarting, while others are in active addiction. A Home Away's Breathing Easy component of the program addresses all of these impacts. You will experience our unique blend of understanding the 12 Step program of Nicotine Anonymous, and the tremendous emotional support of A Home Away to facilitate tobacco cessation as part of your program of recovery.
Old ways of thinking in the addiction field were to first address the 'main' addictions, and worry about tobacco later. However, nicotine addiction kills more people than all other addictive substances combined. Continuing to use the powerful drug of tobacco will keep you in the cycle of physical craving. Our own experience during the evolution of A Home Away's smoking policy has clearly shown that not surrendering tobacco along with the other substances will greatly reduce your opportunity to heal, and to stay clean and sober. Ample evidence from other studies concludes the same. Addiction is addiction, and abstinence must be absolute for optimal outcomes. You deserve the best, and we offer nothing less.
A Home Away is an addiction-free resort environment, including the use of nicotine, just like any other drug. If you are currently a user of tobacco products, we will discuss this with you before you arrive, and help you arrange to easily and quickly make the transition to A Home Away. Once here, we will support you in your process of smoking cessation and in your new life of recovery from all drugs.
You will be amazed at the ease with which this process happens, and you will quickly begin to experience the joys of being fully clean and sober. You will have sweet smelling hair, clothes and breath, no longer huddled alone outside in the cold, and you will be breathing easy the fresh Okanagan air on your morning walks with your fellow guests and Cocoa.
