Career Mission

I am motivated to apply my leadership, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills, and understanding of the healthcare system, to help people suffering from addiction. Following twenty successful and rewarding years as a pharmacist and manager in hospital and corporate settings, I have transferred my skills and recovery experience and shifted my career focus to alleviating suffering from the disease of addiction. I understand the complex problem of addiction and the desperate need for leaders and clinicians who grasp its impact on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being of patients and their families and communities. My mission is to help individuals affected by addiction and those they love, and offer healing through a holistic approach within a disease model of care within Twelve Step philosophy. My goal is to help individuals, families and communities find hope and health

Graduated with honours from the Master of Arts in Addiction Counselling degree program at the world-leading Hazelden Foundation in Minnesota. Recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Writing and honoured as class valedictorian. Extensive academic and clinical experiences were sequenced to provide rich opportunities to integrate leading-edge knowledge with clinical practice. A 44-credit program with 900 hours of diverse clinical experience over twelve months emphasized a multidisciplinary approach to treating the whole person with the disease of addiction, treating individuals and family members with dignity and respect, recognizing individual's capacity to change, and valuing the role of Twelve Step philosophy and mutual support groups in recovery. Championed the development of a long-term partnership resulting in the formation of the Glaxo Wellcome - Sunnybrook Drug Safety Clinic. Served as Chair of the Management Committee (1996-1999). The Clinic is a strategic collaboration between leaders of the private and public sectors and is dedicated to improving the safe, effective and cost efficient use of medicines through a variety of diagnostic, consultative and educational services and research endeavors.
