Your retreat will provide you a comprehensive, holistic experience of living a healthy, balanced life. All aspects of the whole person, including mind, body, and spirit, are addressed.

This is not a mental health institution that conducts psycho social rehabilitation or psychotherapy. As a part of your retreat, we offer counselling that supports you to achieve your goals in your life. Your dynamic full-life program will include individual and small group sharing sessions, life coaching, spiritual exploration, music, artistic expression, yoga, meditation, and sauna. Expressing your thoughts and feelings through holistic approaches such as musical and artistic expression can be a new experience for many, and always a lot of fun.

Music is alive at A Home Away!
Guests enjoy a wide range of contemporary, classical, and relaxation music whether in the dining room, in the sauna, or poolside. For those wishing to express themselves musically, or to simply revisit an interest from the past, musical instruments are available for your enjoyment including acoustic guitar, keyboard, and drums.

A Home Away also offers a well-stocked art studio complete with water colours, acrylic and oil paints, canvas, charcoal, and pencils. Discover your hidden talent or get in touch with your creative side. Express your Self at A Home Away!

Music Expression

Drumming is just one form of expressionThe basics of drumming, song writing, singing and movement choreography allow you to discover and express a range of emotions through the medium of music. No previous musical training, knowledge or skill is required. Regardless of background, guests invariably enjoy the diverse experience this session affords. You will have an opportunity to express the many feelings that emerge in your new life of recovery in a healthy and fun way. You may possibly even learn a new hobby to take with you on your journey of recovery!

Music Expression is led by Jim Copeland and Devaki Thomas. Jim shares his passion for healing through rhythm and his impressive drum collection. Jim's assortment of drums compliments our own. Devaki is an accomplished and well known local international musician recognized in the music industry and co-founder of the band, Samsara.

Creative Expressions

You will be introduced to and explore activities you can continue enjoying as you transition from your addiction rehab retreat program into a healthy, recovery based lifestyle at home. We create art to allow for personal expression, through colors and different mediums. We hike and walk on our beautiful natural trails. Collectively these sessions encourage connection with yourself, inner child or artist side, and nature. You will be moved; emotionally, artistically and physically.

Yoga

Performing YogaWe practice yoga weekly at a beginner's pace, focusing on conscious breathing, mental relaxation and gentle movement through postures. Within an environment of gentleness and acceptance, you will be shown how to move toward a healthier and more natural state of wellbeing through physical postures, breath work, energy work, relaxation, visualization and meditation. You will learn how to strengthen your body, as well as techniques to quiet your mind, and get in touch with your inner knowing.

Those who have never done yoga before often are hesitant at first. Invariably, regardless of age or ability, guests love the weekly yoga session and look forward to it with enthusiasm.

Massage

Massage is one of the holistic approaches included in your recovery retreat at A Home Away. You will be offered a one-hour therapeutic massage every week. Massage can be healing to the mind, body and spirit. It is a drug-free, natural way of reducing stress, connecting with your feelings, and promoting overall well-being. You will be encouraged to relax and loosen up in our beautiful sauna before your session.

Massage will complement the other holistic components of the AHA retreat, and contribute to your personal growth, health, and well being.
